Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry made a significant appearance on the final day of the Democratic National Convention, held at the United Center in Chicago. In a video message, Curry endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency, while proudly wearing the gold medal he won with Team USA at the Paris Olympics earlier this month.

Curry opened his message by reflecting on the honor of representing the United States in the Olympics. “What’s up everybody, Stephen Curry here. I know y’all know I play for the Golden State Warriors, but man, what a great honor it was representing Team USA, going out there and winning that gold medal at the Olympics this summer,” he began. He emphasized the importance of unity both on and off the court, stating that this spirit of togetherness is something Harris could bring back to the country if elected president. “That’s why I believe that Kamala, as president, could bring that unity back and continue to move our country forward. This is about preserving hope and belief in our country, making sure families can be taken care of during their most precious times.”

Curry shared a personal anecdote from his visit to the White House last year, where he met with Harris. “I got to visit Kamala with my team in the White House last year, and I can tell you one thing. I knew then, and I definitely know now, the Oval Office suits her well,” he said. He concluded his endorsement by urging Americans to be active in the upcoming election, quoting Michelle Obama: “In the words of Michelle Obama, do something. Go vote. Be active. Let’s show out in November, like never before. It’s been an honor for me to represent our country. It’s an honor to support Kamala. Let’s all do our part, and God bless.”

Curry’s endorsement came on the heels of a similar speech given by his coach, Steve Kerr, earlier in the convention, where Kerr also voiced his support for Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz. Kerr, a known Warriors fan, echoed Curry’s sentiments about the importance of unity and leadership, and in his closing remarks, he referenced former President Donald Trump.

Curry’s video was part of a star-studded program that also featured actress Kerry Washington, Reverend Al Sharpton, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, and Senator Elizabeth Warren, and concluded with Kamala Harris’s acceptance speech.

This isn’t the first time Curry has stepped into the political arena. He and his wife, Ayesha, made a similar appearance at the 2020 DNC, where they endorsed President Joe Biden. Curry has also hinted at possibly entering politics after his basketball career ends. His ties to the political world were further solidified when the Warriors visited the White House last year after winning the 2022 NBA Finals. The team had previously visited former President Barack Obama after their 2015 championship win. However, their 2017 and 2018 titles were marked by controversy, as President Trump publicly rescinded their White House invitation after Curry expressed he wouldn’t attend.

Curry’s endorsement of Kamala Harris reflects his continued commitment to using his platform for political and social causes, inspiring fans both on and off the court.
