Guerschon Yabusele has transformed into a formidable player over the past five years, and now he’s setting his sights on a return to the NBA.

During his initial stint with the Boston Celtics from 2017 to 2019, Yabusele was a far cry from the player he is today. Back then, he lacked the strength, polish, and maturity that now define his game. However, his recent performance has captured the attention of NBA scouts, signaling that he’s more than ready for another shot in the league.

This past season, Yabusele averaged an impressive 14 points per game while shooting a remarkable 51.9% from the field in Paris. His stellar play has piqued the interest of several NBA front offices, and Yabusele himself has expressed a strong desire to make his return.

However, there are still some lingering questions. While he showed his readiness in Paris, NBA teams may have concerns about his ability to consistently space the floor. Although he shot 39.4% from beyond the arc with Real Madrid last season, his three-point percentage dropped to 28.6% during the Olympics with the French national team. Additionally, financial considerations come into play.

Guerschon Yabusele, now 28, is currently under contract with Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid for the upcoming season. According to Marc Stein, Yabusele’s NBA buyout clause is set at $2.5 million, a significant increase from the $1 million buyout before July 15, when there was little interest from NBA teams. The question now is whether any team is willing to not only cover the hefty buyout but also offer Yabusele a salary that exceeds the league minimum.

The more likely scenario is that NBA teams will revisit their interest in Yabusele next summer, exploring potential terms for bringing him back to the league.

Another French player to watch is forward Mathias Lessort, currently with Panathinaikos in the Greek league. According to Ian Begley of SNY.TV, Lessort and the New York Knicks engaged in discussions earlier this offseason, prior to the Paris Olympics.

As the Knicks were searching for additional front-line depth, they reportedly inquired about Lessort’s willingness to join the team. However, both parties were unable to reach an agreement. It’s believed that the Knicks’ offer was for a minimum non-guaranteed contract, which Lessort declined, opting to remain with Panathinaikos. Whether Lessort’s performance in Paris will prompt the Knicks to revisit their offer next offseason remains to be seen, but it’s a situation worth keeping an eye on
