But here’s the twist: recent developments have cast a shadow over this optimism. The arena is up for sale, and the Herd’s lease runs until 2026. According to insider information, the team alleges that Fox Valley Pro Basketball is breaching the lease terms, possibly giving the Herd an out.
Oshkosh Arena is facing a foreclosure claim from Bayland Buildings, the arena’s builder, who asserts a staggering $12.4 million in unpaid balances. As if this drama wasn’t enough, a court-appointed neutral party is now managing the arena, adding a layer of uncertainty to the Herd’s plans.
The Herd’s management is not sitting idly by. Future Bucks LLC, the team’s management group, has requested to be recognized as a creditor in the foreclosure case, underscoring their stake in the arena’s fate.
In the midst of this turmoil, Abdur-Rahim’s perspective is informed by his own experiences. Having witnessed the relocation of the Vancouver Grizzlies to Memphis in 2001, he understands the volatility of professional sports. “Relocation is part of the business,” he admits. “We’re prepared to handle it.”
Adding to the intrigue, reports suggest the Herd reached out to La Crosse Center about potential relocation options. Yet, this move seems more about exploring possibilities than a definitive shift.
