Clyde Drexler 1992 Olympic gold medal has hit the auction block this week, becoming the first such medal from a player to be auctioned. The auction, conducted by Goldin, began with a starting bid of $250,000 and is expected to fetch a significantly higher price. In comparison, a duplicate gold medal from fellow “Dream Team” member Karl Malone sold for over $74,000 in 2023.
Drexler’s medal comes with a letter of authenticity signed in April. During the 1992 Olympics, Drexler was a standout wing for the Portland Trail Blazers but was not initially included in the 10-player roster. He and Christian Laettner, who was playing for Duke at the time, were later selected by the USA Basketball selection committee as the final two members of the team.
