The NBA has revealed the teams hard-capped under the NBA Salary Cap for the 2024-25 season, highlighting prominent franchises such as the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Clippers reaching their financial limits.
Warriors, Knicks and Clippers in Financial Crisis: NBA Salary Cap Saga Unfolds
According to ESPN’s Bobby Marks, 13 teams, including the Warriors and Clippers, are constrained by the first apron limit, while the New York Knicks are among the four teams facing restrictions at the second apron level.
Unlike leagues such as the NHL, the NBA imposes these caps based on specific transactions made while exceeding the official salary cap.
The Warriors found themselves hard-capped after engaging in a sign-and-trade deal and utilizing the non-tax mid-level exception in acquiring Buddy Hield and De’Anthony Melton.
Similarly, the Clippers triggered their hard cap through strategic use of the non-tax mid-level exception. Meanwhile, the Knicks incurred penalties due to their aggregate offseason expenditures.
As of now, Golden State operates with a tight $533,659 margin under the first apron, while the Clippers have $5.9 million available, and the Knicks manage within a $15 million limit under the second apron.
