The official draw for the FIBA Centrobasket U15 Championship is to be held in Gurabo, Puerto Rico starting from June 18 till 22nd at the FIBA Americas Regional Office.
The national teams had earlier been grouped together based on their Nike Youth Ranking status. The teams and their locations were then chosen to determine the pairings.
The groups are aligned as follows:
Group A
- Costa Rica
- Mexico
- Dominican Republic
- Turks and Caicos.
Group B
- Panama
- Guyana
- Bahamas
- Puerto Rico
The championship will take place at the Fernando “Rube” Hernandez Colosseum. The top two winning sides from each group will proceed to the Semi-Finals, with the remaining teams competing for slots 5-8.
The top two teams from Group A will encounter the second team from Group B in the Semi-Finals and vice versa. 1A vs 2B and 1B vs 2A.
The winners of the Semi-Finals will compete for the gold medal, whereas the losers will compete for the third spot and a bronze medal.
The top three teams will get their berth for the FIBA U16 Americas Championship in 2023.
In the meantime, FIBA Centrobasket U15 Women’s Championship is also scheduled to be played in Gurabo, Puerto Rico from June 26.
The five national teams will play one match against each other in a round-robin fashion. The team that ranks first at the end of all of the matches will be declared the winner. The silver and bronze medals will be awarded to the 2nd and 3rd places, accordingly. Same in the case, the top three finishers will qualify for the FIBA U16 Women’s America Championship.
