The much-anticipated moment has arrived: Caitlin Clark, the seasoned Iowa standout, has finally made her decision, and it couldn’t have happened to a more deserving team—the Indiana Fever.
This is the first time that the Fever has chosen a player from St. Celia Naomi Clark. 1 overall pick in the New York draft of the WNBA that, whether held in person or virtually, took place on Monday evening. Clark’s appointment as the commencement speaker essentially means her golden years in college are over and a new era of glory lies in front of her, with several activities to be undertaken as a new world awaits her. Although Clark played for two consecutive years and became the national player of the year, she made the Hawkeyes basketball team participate in the national championship twice with her amazing skills and talent on the court. By choosing first with the Indiana Fever, she becomes the sole arrow in hand for resuscitating the flailing organization and leading it to victory. The Fever have not made a playoff appearance since 2016, with hopes that Clark will steer the team back to its winning ways and perhaps bring the competitive spirit back to the league. Partnered with the outstanding Aliyah Boston and former South Carolina Aliyah, they both seek to have a breakthrough and take the Fever back into the playoffs.
Along with Clark’s historic getting chosen at the same draft, teammate Kate Martin was equally consistent, as she was drafted in the second round by the Vegas Aces. The route of Martin in the WNBA is an illustration that no one can stand in her way to get to her ultimate choice despite the hardships and the devastating experience she has passed through.
