The Chicago Bulls’ star player, Zach LaVine, will miss the remainder of the 2023-24 NBA season, as reported by The Athletic’s Shams Charania. This news follows additional medical opinions sought by LaVine and the Chicago Bulls’ training and medical staff. LaVine’s right foot injury will require surgery, scheduled for the week of February 5, with an expected recovery period of 4-6 months.
LaVine, a two-time All-Star, has sidelined since January 18 due to the injury. In the 25 games he played this season, he averaged 19.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game.
LaVine’s Trade Status
The injury to LaVine complicates trade discussions as the NBA Trade Deadline approaches. There were earlier speculations about LaVine being a top trade candidate, but recent reports suggest that the Bulls may need to attach another asset to facilitate a trade. Despite the Bulls’ original plans, the absence of LaVine for the rest of the season diminishes the possibility of a trade during this period.
The Bulls, with a current record of 23-26, may need to reconsider their strategies for the remainder of the season, especially with LaVine unavailable for a potential playoff push.
Bulls’ Trade Plans
While LaVine’s future with the Bulls remains uncertain, the team has reportedly been seeking a strong return for him. The organization values LaVine and has not shown interest in trading him as a cost-saving move. However, given the team’s limited success in the playoffs since acquiring LaVine in 2017, a change of scenery for both parties might be considered.
In addition to Zach LaVine, other Bulls players, such as Alex Caruso and Andre Drummond, have been subjects of trade rumors. Teams have expressed interest in Caruso, and there’s speculation that the Bulls could receive two protected first-round picks if they engage in a trade war for him. Drummond’s trade destination remains uncertain, with no clear leader in the ongoing discussions.
Injury Update: Zach LaVine will undergo surgery on right foot as the next step in his recovery process.
