Detroit Pistons Edge Close to Unwanted Record: Drop 28th Consecutive Game Against Celtics

The Detroit Pistons faced another devastating defeat, inching closer to an unwanted NBA record after dropping their 28th consecutive game, this time to the Boston Celtics in a dramatic showdown at TD Garden. Despite starting strong and building a 21-point lead, the Pistons fell short, succumbing 128-122 to the Celtics in a heartbreaking loss.

Led by the resilient Cade Cunningham, the Detroit Pistons showcased early dominance, securing a 30-27 lead by the end of the first quarter. Cunningham’s remarkable offensive prowess propelled his team to a staggering 66-47 lead by halftime, accumulating 22 points, three assists, and three steals before the break. However, the Celtics, missing Jaylen Brown, mounted a stunning comeback in the second half.

Derrick White’s resurgence in the latter half boosted the Celtics’ momentum, contributing 21 crucial points and pivotal defensive plays that aided in overturning the game. With Kristaps Porzingis delivering a game-high 35 points and Jayson Tatum adding 31 points and 10 rebounds, the Celtics managed to force overtime and secure the victory as the Pistons faltered down the stretch.

Cunningham led the Pistons’ charge with a team-high 31 points, closely supported by Jaden Ivey’s 22 points and 10 rebounds. Bojan Bogdanovic and Jalen Duren registered double-doubles, stepping up in the absence of Isaiah Stewart.

Despite the disheartening loss, Detroit Pistons coach Monty Williams commended the team’s resilience and character, acknowledging their unwavering effort amidst adversity.

Expressing both empathy and hope for his team, Williams shared, “I hurt for them… We feel like we’re getting so close to not winning one game, but winning a lot of games if we play that way.”

Looking ahead, the Detroit Pistons aim to break their winless streak as they return to Little Caesars Arena to face the Toronto Raptors. With their last victory dating back to October 28 against the Chicago Bulls, a win against the Raptors would prevent them from claiming the NBA’s most undesirable record.
